Male or female?

Dwarf hamsters can be kept as single-sex pairs (that is two males or two females), so that they can keep each other company but will not breed. You will need to enlist the help of an experienced hamster owner who is able to sex hamsters at an young age. Golden hamsters can only be kept singly and in terms of temperament, it doesn't make any real difference wheather you pick a male or a female.
